The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security have issued a warning about the risk of potential “copycat” attacks inspired by the New Year’s Eve terrorist incident involving pickup trucks in New Orleans.
According to ABC News, officials sent a letter to law enforcement agencies nationwide, urging them to stay vigilant for signs of activity suggesting the use of vehicles as tools for mass casualties.
The memo highlights that the so-called Islamic State (IS), to whom New Orleans attacker Shamsud Din Jabbar reportedly pledged allegiance, has been advocating the use of vehicles as weapons for terrorist attacks since 2014, according to the FBI.
