AC Milan fired Paulo Fonseca as head coach after just six months in charge. Fonseca confirmed his departure to reporters after a 1-1 draw with Roma on Sunday, saying, “Yes, it’s true. I’m out. That’s life. “I did everything I could,” Fonseca said. The club announced the decision on Monday.

Sergio Conceicao, a fellow Portuguese coach, has replaced Fonseca on a two-year deal until June 2026. Conceicao, who left Porto in the summer after winning 11 trophies during a seven-year tenure, now takes over with Milan sitting eighth in Serie A.
Fonseca’s six-month stint was marked by inconsistency, with the team securing only seven wins in 17 league matches and drawing six times. Milan trails fourth-placed Lazio by eight points in the race for Champions League qualification.
Despite struggles in Serie A, Milan has performed better in the Champions League, achieving a notable 3-1 victory over Real Madrid in November. Conceicao’s first game as head coach will be against Juventus in the Italian Super Cup semi-finals on January 3 in Saudi Arabia.
