Grand Theft Auto fans have faced another letdown after Rockstar Games dismissed a recent theory suggesting GTA 6 news would arrive on December 27.
Given the long stretch since the last GTA game’s release (and its multiple re-releases), many assumed that consistent updates would follow the official announcement of GTA 6. That hope seemed justified last year when Rockstar’s highly anticipated next installment was revealed, shortly after a major leak. However, over a year has passed, and fans are still waiting for concrete details.
Despite Take-Two confirming a Fall 2025 release for GTA 6, there’s been an unsettling silence about one of the most eagerly awaited games ever. To make matters worse, 2024 is now coming to a close without any significant updates, leaving fans disappointed after clinging to hopes for news by late December.
Bad news, GTA Fans—The December 27 Rumors Have Been Debunked

For those familiar with the Moon Theory, speculation about when Rockstar would share more GTA 6 details has been rampant. Unfortunately, aside from one instance, most of these theories have proven incorrect—most recently, the buzz around December 27.
So, why December 27? The theory began when a Rockstar Games employee posted a photo of a holiday goodie bag they received from the studio. Fans dissected the image, spotting what they believed were references to the number 27 and subtle nods to Florida (the inspiration for Vice City). This idea gained further traction after some related Instagram posts were mysteriously deleted.
Now that the much-anticipated day has arrived, it turns out to be yet another dose of misplaced hope. Rockstar did tweet earlier, but it was only to remind fans about their holiday sale nearing its end, crushing any expectations of a GTA 6 update. While this isn’t unfamiliar territory for GTA fans, many are still visibly disappointed.
