Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will undergo prostate surgery today in an underground operating room at Hadassah Medical Center in Ein Kerem, near Jerusalem, Israeli Channel 12 reported. Officials chose the reinforced operating room due to concerns about potential rocket attacks during the procedure, following recent rocket fire from Yemen and Gaza targeting the Jerusalem area over the past 48 hours.
Netanyahu’s lawyer stated that doctors will perform the surgery under general anesthesia, and Netanyahu will stay in the hospital for several days afterward. During the operation, Israeli Justice Minister Yair Levin will temporarily assume the role of interim prime minister, while Defense Minister Yair Katz will have the authority to convene the security cabinet if needed.
Israeli media, referencing the Mayo Clinic, reported that hospitals usually discharge patients after similar surgeries within one to two days.
