Novak Djokovic has described his coaching partnership with former rival Andy Murray as “strange” but “terrific” ahead of their first tournament together. The two teamed up late this year in preparation for the 2025 Australian Open, where Djokovic is a 10-time champion.

Reflecting on a season of ups and downs, the 37-year-old aims for greater consistency in 2025. He brought Murray on board to add a fresh perspective as he continues to compete against the sport’s rising stars.
“Being on the same side of the net is a great change, considering he’s been one of my biggest rivals,” Djokovic said. “It was strange to share insights about my game with someone who’s always been a top competitor, but I’m grateful he agreed to work with me here in Australia.”

The pair trained together for 10 days before the season’s start. Although Murray won’t be in Djokovic’s corner in Brisbane, he will rejoin him in Melbourne for a week of preparation ahead of the Australian Open, which begins on January 12. The partnership is currently a short-term arrangement, with plans to evaluate its future after the tournament.
“The 10 days we spent together were incredible,” Djokovic shared. “Andy is meticulous, dedicated, and professional. It doesn’t surprise me because I’ve known him for years as a player. He has a unique understanding of my game and valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of today’s top players.”
